TUITION and FEES
2009 Tuition
Rice Undergraduate Students: $1186 per credit hour*
Rice Graduate Students: $1665 per credit hour*
Visiting/Class III Students: $1186 per credit hour
Visiting and Class III students get a $25 per credit hour discount when applications are received in the Summer School Office by the early application discount deadline. Applications received after this date will not receive a discount.
Tuition Deposit:
Visiting and Class III students must pay a tuition deposit of $200 per course at the time of application. The remainder of the tuition payment is due at registration. The deposit is refunded if the course is canceled for lack of enrollment or if an applicant is denied admission. Deposits paid by credit card will be returned less a 5 percent handling fee.
Forms of Payment: The Summer School Office will accept VISA, MasterCard, or American Express for the application fees and tuition deposits. Final tuition is payable by check or cash ONLY and must be paid at the Cashier’s Office at registration. There is a $30 charge for any check returned for insufficient funds.

Application Fee (for visiting and Class III students only): $75 nonrefundable*
Late Application Fee (after deadline, for visiting and Class III students only): $150 nonrefundable
Late Registration Fee (after deadline, for all students): $150 nonrefundable
Recreation Center Fee (for visiting and Class III students only): $60
*Application fee will be refunded only if Summer School Office cancels the course.
The cost of textbooks and class materials is not included in the tuition nor the application fee.
Teacher Certification Program: Students enrolling in the student teaching apprenticeship or internship plans should contact the Education Certification office via e-mail at educ@rice.edu or by telephone at 713-348-4826.
Tuition Remission and Waiver: Rice students who are dependents of eligible Rice employees may receive tuition remission. Benefits-eligible Rice faculty and staff may take one course per semester tuition-free, and summer courses count as one semester under the policy. Tuition Remission and Tuition Waiver applicants must pay all fees. Application forms for tuition remission (for newly eligible dependents) and tuition waivers (for employees) must be submitted to Human Resources, 713-348-4070, located on the first floor of the Allen Center. Blank forms can be found at the Rice Human Resources Web site.
University policy precludes tuition remission for children of Rice faculty and staff who are not students at Rice University. The inter-university/college tuition remission (including the exchange program with Austin College and Trinity University) will not be in effect during the Summer Program.
Please note that withdrawal is effective only after written notification is received in the Summer School Office.
The $200 per course tuition deposit (required of visiting and Class III students only) will be refunded if withdrawal occurs prior to registration, if the course is canceled for lack of enrollment, or if a student is not accepted. Deposits paid by credit card will be returned less a 5 percent handling fee.
Seventy-five dollars will be deducted from the tuition refund if withdrawal occurs after registration, but before the course begins. This $75 withdrawal penalty is in addition to the nonrefundable application fee and any applicable late fees.
Fifty percent of tuition paid will be refunded if withdrawal occurs after the corresponding course begins.
There is a $30 charge for any check returned for insufficient funds.
