Campus Bookstore:

The Rice University Bookstore is located in the Rice Memorial Center/Ley Student Center Building. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. For additional information, please call 713-348-4052.

Housing: Limited on-campus housing is available during the summer. Go to the Housing and Dining Web site, http://salt.rice.edu/, and click on "Summer and Conference Housing" for more information.

Health Services: The Counseling Center located in Lovett Hall, Entrance A, Room 301, (713-348-4867), provides confidential individual, couples and group counseling, consultations and crisis intervention for Rice University students who have paid the Health Fee.

Student Health Services located in the Rich Health and Wellness Center, is also available to Rice University students who have paid the Health Fee. It is open part-time during the summer. Check exact days and times on the Student Health Services Web site.

After-hours and weekend medical care is available at a number of local clinics and hospitals. Students are encouraged to review their medical insurance coverage and decide which of the available options would be appropriate in the event medical care is necessary. Call Dr. Lindley Doran, Assistant Dean for Student Health Programs, at 713-348-4867 for questions regarding the Rice Counseling Center. Visiting and Class III students should check with their insurance companies to find what health providers are available to them in Houston during the summer.

Academic Advising: Information about various academic aspects of Rice, including majors and transfer credit, is available in the online General Announcements. Academic advice for Rice University students is available in the Office of Academic Advising in the Ley Student Center. Call 713-348-4060 or e-mail aadv@rice.edu.

Parking: After registration, students new to Rice will be directed to the Parking Registration Office in the Central Campus Garage to obtain parking permits. The permit enables students to park in the West lots 2, 4 or 5 or the Greenbriar lot during Summer School. For those students who will be attending the early summer session, parking prices are $25.56 for the West lots and $16.34 for the Greenbriar lot. For those who will be attending the general summer session, parking prices are $51.12 for the West lot and $32.67 for the Greenbriar lot. Parking fees must be paid at the time of registration with a check or money order made payable to Rice University. The Parking Registration Office does not accept cash or credit cards.

Honor Council: The Honor Council has established procedures for operation during the summer. Every student is expected to receive proper orientation, abide by the Honor Code and accept responsibility for his/her work. All the normal academic regulations apply in the summer to all students. You may contact the Honor Council at honor@rice.edu.

Recreation Center Facilities: The Recreation Center offers access to cardio, fitness and weight rooms as well as space for recreational activities such as tennis, racquetball, basketball, squash, swimming, volleyball, badminton, etc. Students will be issued equipment but will need to bring their own clothing, shoes and towel. Because of various summer programs, use of the Recreation Center's facilities space is limited during the day. Visiting and Class III students must pay a $120 fee to use the Recreation Center facilities; call 713-348-4058 for details.

Eating Facilities: Sammy's Cafe, located in the Ley Student Center, will be open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The convenience store and 13th Street (breakfast, sandwiches and smoothies) hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Hours of operation are subject to change. Brochstein Pavilion Coffeehouse, featuring premium coffees, baked goods and light lunch fare which you can enjoy in the relaxing Pavilion atmosphere, is also available in the summer. Check our Web site for posted summer hours.
Willy's Pub, located in the Student Center, will be open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m serving sandwiches, pizzas and small fare. Rice Coffeehouse (coffee, bagels, specialty coffee drinks and baked goods) hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. For more information, please see the Rice Student Center Web site (www.rice.edu/sc).
Numerous restaurants are located nearby in the Rice Village and Medical Center areas as well as on Shepherd and Montrose.

Student I.D./University Police: After registration, students new to Rice will be directed to the University Police Department to obtain student identification cards. The I.D. card provides access to the library and recreation center during Summer School; however, visiting and Class III students must pay a fee to use the recreation center. The University Police Department is located inside Entrance Number 8 off University Boulevard. Student Identification Cards may be obtained from the identification section of the University Police Department from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For routine and emergency response, the University Police are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The emergency telephone number is 713-348-6000. Throughout the campus, there are emergency telephones that ring directly to the University Police. A blue light on top of the pole identifies these phones.
