Rice University had a 100 percent pass rate for both the SPHR® May/June 2008 exam window and the SPHR® December 2008/January 2009 exam window. – 2009 SHRM Coordinators Conference HR professionals are the newest strategic partners in the planning and management of organizations of all types, private or public, for profit or not for profit. This program is designed for senior HR professionals who may be called upon to assume ultimate responsibility for HR management in their companies and who need to have a clear understanding of the many aspects of the HR manager’s role in both internal and external affairs. It will provide the knowledge and in-depth training required of HR generalists at the highest levels of management. The content focuses on areas tested by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI®) for the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®). Please note that you must meet certain eligibility requirements and register by deadline to take the national examinations. Visit www.hrci.org. This course uses "Human Resource Management" by Dr. Robert L. Mathis and Dr. John H. Jackson which is widely used by HR generalists and managers as a desktop reference and in preparation for professional certifications. Dr. Mathis is professor of management at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has held numerous national offices in SHRM, has served as president of HRCI and is certified as an SPHR. Dr. Jackson is professor of management and chairman of the department of management and marketing at the University of Wyoming. He has authored four college texts and over 50 articles and papers, including those appearing in Human Resource Management and Human Resources Planning. He has consulted widely with a variety of organizations on HR and management development matters. Topics will include the following:

Study materials: Fee includes cost of the text, "Human Resource Management," by Robert L. Mathis and John H. Jackson, 12th edition. Participants must have Web access. Cost of study materials is non-refundable once the materials are distributed. Refunds and cancellations: No refunds will be issued on or after the date the program begins. If enrollment is canceled in writing two weeks before the program begins, a full refund will be issued less the cost of any course materials the participant has received. When enrollments are canceled in writing less than two weeks before the program begins, a refund will be issued only if a replacement can be found for you and a 20 percent processing fee and the cost of any materials the participant has received will be deducted from the refund. Instructors: Kathleen M. Fenninger, SPHR, has more than 20 years of experience in human resources both as a generalist and an employment specialist, primarily in the energy and financial services industries in Houston and New York City. She has served as president of the Houston Human Resource Management Association and was awarded the Distinguished Professional in Human Resources award in 1998. Ms. Fenninger was certification director for Area IV Board of Directors of the Society for Human Resource Management and co-chair and founding board member of the regional chapter of the Employment Management Association in Houston. She has been an instructor for the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies since 1996. Ms. Fenninger holds an MBA in organizational behavior and marketing, an MS in education and a BA in English from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where she was an instructor for several years. Certificate of enrollment: All participants will receive a certificate verifying enrollment. Certificate of achievement: Participants in Senior HR Development who score 70 percent or better on the final examination and attend at least 70 percent of the classroom hours will receive a certificate of achievement with commensurate CEUs and recertification credits. HRCI certification information: The Senior HR Development course, offered by the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies at Rice University, reflects the general body of knowledge tested by the national Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
